The debut of Cedar Point’s newest ride didn’t go as planned Thursday.
The Wild Mouse, Cedar Point’s newest ride, malfunctioned and stranded riders, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
During a preview for the media and selected roller coaster enthusiasts, at least two cars stopped, with one at near the ride’s highest point. Riders had to be escorted down safety staircases by Cedar Point park personnel. No injuries were reported.
The Wild Mouse has a top speed of 35 mph and reaches 52 feet in the air. As comparison, the park’s Millennium Force ascends to more than 300 feet up, while the Top Thrill Dragster, which is closed for the 2023 season, hits 120 mph.
The park is closed Friday and officially opens at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Locally, ride malfunctions have happened recently, too. The Aero 360 at Kennywood stopped upside down for about five minutes in May 2022. Coraopolis resident Alexandra Schneider said she could feel a headache coming as from being upside down so long.
“We were like, ‘holy crap this is actually happening. We are stuck. Hopefully our harnesses won’t come off,’” she said. “I was trying to keep calm.”
