Schools across the Pittsburgh area were issuing two-hour delays or moving to remote instruction for Friday because of snow that moved in overnight and was slickening roads for the morning commute.

A complete list of delays is available from Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The snow began overnight ahead of a cold front, National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Modzelewski said. Between 1 and 2 inches is expected across the area by the time it ends around mid-afternoon.

The snow is light but enough to cause some travel problems on secondary and untreated roads, Modzelewski said. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for several counties in southwestern Pennsylvania urging drivers to use caution if traveling Friday morning.

The temperature is expected to remain steady through the day, with a forecast high of 27 before falling to between 0 and 5 degrees.

It’s expected to be even colder Saturday night, with a low between 0 and minus 5, Modzelewski said.

The Pittsburgh area will get a chance to thaw out a little toward Tuesday, when the highs are expected to get into the 40s until colder air returns next Friday, he said.
