A resident at a Presbyterian SeniorCare Network community in Washington has tested positive for covid-19, the second confirmed case at the Washington County facility.

SeniorCare officials made the announcement in a news release Wednesday night.

“Although we did not have any residents who had exhibited any covid-19 related symptoms, we decided to err on the side of abundant caution and provide the opportunity for residents that were at Southminster Place to be tested,” said SeniorCare President and CEO Paul Winkler.

Forty-seven Southminster Place residents were tested Monday, SeniorCare officials said, with all but one result returned on Wednesday.

Tests also came back negative for eight employees who were in contact with Southminster’s first positive case, an employee who was last at the facility April 1.

“Since the start of this pandemic, we have been aggressive about implementing networkwide precautionary measures and restrictions in accordance with federal, state and local guidance,” said Kristin Henderson, SeniorCare’s senior director of clinical services. “And we have been constantly updating and adjusting our protocols and procedures as the guidance and learnings have continued to evolve.”

Presbyterian SeniorCare has 27 locations throughout Western Pennsylvania.

To date, there are no additional confirmed covid-19 positive cases among the more than 2,000 team members of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Additionally, there have been no other confirmed cases among the residents and patients in the network’s 50-plus independent living and care communities across Western Pennsylvania.

“While even one positive resident case is one too many, we are grateful that it appears that the exposure has been limited at Southminster Place,” Winkler said.
