Sheetz officials announced menu changes Monday in response to the coronavirus.

The Altoona-based convenience store chain temporarily eliminated self-serve coffee and beverages along with bakery items like doughnuts and muffins to help stop the spread of covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The changes went into effect at 4 p.m. Monday.

Coffee can still be purchased through the touch-screen order kiosks or by asking an employee for assistance. While fountain drinks, fresh brewed tea, frozen drinks and F’Real milkshakes will not be available, Made-to-Order drinks like smoothies can still be purchased along with those located in coolers.

Officials announced loyalty points will be extended until July 1.

“We apologize for this inconvenience but please know we will continue to put your health first as we remain a vital resource for our communities,” Travis Sheetz, president and COO, said in a news release. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and keep you informed of any additional adjustments we need to make to protect our customers and employees.”

The changes join those recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention including enhanced routine daily cleaning of gas pumps, order points, counter tops, checkout lines and door handles. Employees are also being retrained on proper hand washing and hygiene.

Questions regarding the changes can be directed to the customer care line at 800-487-5444.
