Sheetz plans to add 30 gas stations and convenience stores in Western Pennsylvania over the next three to five years.

The Altoona-based chain said it is working with commercial real estate firm CBRE to identify sites for the new locations.

Brian Dinges, assistant vice president of real estate, acknowledged that Sheetz already has a strong presence in the region, but said there is still room for growth.

“Even though Sheetz has a long history in Western Pennsylvania, there are many areas that could benefit from the 24/7 convenience that our company provides,” Dinges said.

The expansion effort comes as convenience stores have benefited from shifts in consumer behavior, according to the release. After a dip in 2020 presumably caused by the pandemic, average vehicle miles traveled for Americans have steadily increased, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Sheetz operates gas stations and convenience stores across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. It has more than 650 locations nationwide and nearly 300 in Pennsylvania.

In April, the company announced it would be adding another 20 stores in Ohio.

RBG Development Inc., a Pittsburgh-based commercial real estate acquisition development firm, is assisting and will be the exclusive developer for Sheetz in the Pittsburgh region.
