Snow is back once again in Western Pennsylvania — but accumulation will be a far cry from the snowstorm at the end of January.
Liana Lupo, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Moon, told TribLive that the Pittsburgh region has seen close to 2 inches of snow as of Monday morning.
The next snowfall this week will take place Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, Lupo said, with about 1 to 3 inches falling. The higher end of that range will be seen in higher levels of elevation, she said.
“A little here, a little there sort of thing,” she said about the snowfall. “It could drop a couple inches for sure.”
The snow will begin between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday and stop falling between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lupo.
“(It’s) a little far out to give anything more specific until tomorrow,” she said. “We’re not done with snow, but it’s not looking like it’ll be significant right now.”
After that snowfall, the next chance for snow will be Thursday during the day, according to Lupo.
“It’s going to be a very minimal amount of snow,” she said, with up to 2 inches maximum.
“During the day on Thursday, kind of light showers starting early Thursday and then going into the afternoon,” she said. “By Thursday evening, it should be moving out.”
And this weekend, there’s a chance for snow Saturday night into Sunday, which Lupo said will be “showers but nothing significant.”
She attributed the temperature fluctuation to the current weather pattern Western Pennsylvania is experiencing.
“Right now, we have a lot of cold air coming from Canada,” Lupo said. “And then as we shift into the weekend, seeing more mild temperatures from Canada.”
On Monday morning, the snow and “some slick conditions” is what likely contributed to numerous school districts’ decisions to call 2-hour delays.
