The ghosts and goblins walking around Halloween night to trick-or-treat in Western Pennsylvania could have a coating of white on their costumes.
The National Weather Service in Moon is forecasting a slight chance of rain mixed with snow Tuesday night before 11 p.m., then a chance of just snow. The weather service puts the chance of precipitation at around 30%.
There is no need to wear boots while trick-or-treating because accumulation in the Pittsburgh area is likely to be around one-tenth of an inch, said Jared Rackley, a weather service meteorologist. There could be an accumulation of snow, ½ to 1 inch, in the Laurel Highlands in eastern Westmoreland and Fayette counties, Rackley said.
He noted that it is not unusual to have snow flurries on Halloween.
Those walking around Halloween night should dress warmly because temperatures are expected to dip to 30 degrees, the weather service said.
Snow flurries are possible Wednesday morning before 8 a.m. and possibly lingering into the afternoon, Rackley said.
The possibility of snow is from winds blowing from the Northwest and Canada across Lake Erie, where they could pick up moisture, Rackley said.
