A Somerset County man died after crashing his pickup truck early Tuesday, according to state police.

Lucas D. Hayman, 20, of Berlin, was driving a Ford Ranger on Route 31 near Ringler Road in Stonycreek just before 6 a.m. when he crossed the center line and slammed into a building, troopers said. He was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where police said he died.

Hayman was wearing a seat belt.

Traffic fatalities statewide increased slightly from 1,059 in 2019 to 1,129 in 2020, according to PennDOT statistics. About 2.6% of fatal crashes in 2020 happened when a vehicle hit a building, compared to 2.3% the previous year.

About 32% of people wearing a seat belt during a crash died in 2020 compared to 40% in 2019, state statistics show.
