Interviews with multiple children have lead to state police accusing a Butler County man of sexual assault.
State police on Saturday said that Nathan Workmen Mitchell, 51, of Adams Township had been arrested and charged with sexual assault by a sports official, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.
He also faces three charges of indecent assault.
The arrest and charges stem from a state police investigation of an Aug. 24 incident in Adams Township.
No charges against Mitchell could be found in online court records Saturday. State police did not provide further information about the charges.
Quality EMS, in Adams Township, confirmed in a social media post that Mitchell has been a part-time member of their staff for about two years, and is now on leave.
Mitchell underwent background checks by the FBI and state police as part of their standard hiring process, Quality EMS said.
“There are no reports of allegations or known incidents in relation to EMT Mitchell during the course of his duties at Quality EMS,” the EMS service said in its statement.
Mars Youth Football & Cheer said its board was informed Aug. 24 of an allegation of misconduct involving Mitchell, who it said “had previously supported our program.”
In a statement, the organization did not specify how Mitchell was involved. On Aug. 25, the board removed him from all program activities and permanently banned him from further involvement.
“The alleged incident occurred outside of our football and cheer activities, and we want to emphasize that the board has never received any complaints or reports of inappropriate behavior during program events,” a statement from the organization said.
Mars Youth Football & Cheer is not associated with the Mars School District.
Jeff James, the school district’s director of safety and security, said the district was aware of the ongoing investigation of Mitchell.
He “will not be granted access to any Mars Area School District buildings or facilities,” James said in a statement.
