Thirty-four more people died of covid-19 complications in Pennsylvania between Friday and Saturday, bringing the state’s death toll to 136 as total confirmed cases crest 10,000.

The state reported 1,597 new cases as of noon Saturday — the largest single-day increase since Pennsylvania’s first two patients tested positive for the highly contagious disease on March 6, data show. “Unfortunately, there is no evidence that the virus is slowing down,” Levine said during a virtual news conference. “Pennsylvania is doing absolutely everything we can to help minimize the spread of covid-19.”

The number of total cases in Pennsylvania now stands at 10,017.

There were 1,404 new cases reported Friday.

The new total includes 76 new cases in Allegheny County and 25 new cases in Westmoreland County, which marked Westmoreland’s second biggest single-day increase.

Cases in Fayette County rose to 23 and in Washington County to 46. Two new cases were reported in Indiana County, which now has nine. Somerset remained at three cases, and Greene County added one new case bringing its total to 12.

Beaver County saw a jump of four cases to 69, and Butler County cases increased from 75 to 84. There have been six deaths in Beaver County and two deaths in Butler County.

Cases in Philadelphia spiked by 326, jumping to 2,610 in Saturday’s update.

Clinton County in northcentral Pennsylvania remained at one case, and 64 of the state’s 67 counties have now reported at least one case.

The Department of Health is not tracking recoveries or recovery time.
