A juvenile who police say stole a car after escaping from a Butler County detention center Saturday night remained at large on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

The unidentified juvenile, whose age and gender were not released, is believed to have escaped from The Summit Academy in Summit Township around 9:25 p.m. Summit Academy is a school for court-adjudicated youth.

State police said the juvenile stole a red Mazda CX-5 from a residence in the 700 block of Herman Road, about a half-mile from the school, between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The SUV had a Pennsylvania license plate reading HBJ-0779, police said.

The vehicle’s doors were unlocked and a key was inside, according to police.
