Western Pennsylvanians can break out the sun hats for the next couple of days.

Today’s high is expected to reach 56 degrees by 3:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Moon, and tomorrow should be sunny with a high of 68 degrees by 2:30 p.m., missing the record by just one degree.

Weather service Meteorologist Jenna Lake said the warm temperatures can be attributed to the La Niña weather pattern the region has been experiencing all winter.

The pattern has trended toward high pressure on the eastern part of the country and the Midwest area getting “pummeled with snow,” Lake said.

But the warm respite is not without interruption.

Friday’s forecast predicts a cold front with rain possibly transitioning into snow, Lake said. After that, temperatures are supposed to warm back up to above average.

“It’s really this pattern we’ve been seeing all winter where we’re really warm and then we get one shot of cold air and we’re back to really warm,” Lake said. “Overall, the pattern has been that we’ve been more mild than normal.”
