Thousands of supporters of former President Donald Trump gathered Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Butler Farm Show complex in Butler Township, to hear the Republican presidential candidate speak.

Members of a House task force investigating the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump will tour the shooting site in Butler today.

Butler County Rep. Mike Kelly, the Republican chairman of the bipartisan task force, and other members will meet with local officials and tour the site of the shooting at the Butler Farm Show grounds.

Kelly witnessed the July 13 assassination attempt. He attended Trump’s rally that day and sponsored the legislation creating the task force, made up of seven Republicans and six Democrats.

The task force’s stated goal is to understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination, ensure accountability and prevent such an incident from happening again. A final report is expected before Dec. 13.

Trump was injured in the shooting. Corey Comperatore, 50, of Buffalo Township was killed. Two other men, David Dutch, 57, of Plum and James Copenhaver, 74, were injured.

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park was killed by the Secret Service.
