The National Weather Service has issued tornado and flood watches in multiple counties across Western Pennsylvania for Wednesday into Thursday morning.

The tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening for Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

“A line of showers are moving through Allegheny County as we speak that still has potential to produce a tornado” said Jason Frazier, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Moon, on Wednesday afternoon. “We do expect that potential for tornado development to end this evening.”

The flood watch will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Thursday in portions of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

“Plenty of people need to be aware and monitor flooded roadways and notify personnel to where flooding may occur so that they can alert us and alert others to avoid troublesome spots.” Frazier said.

Residents in the flood watch area can expect heavy showers and thunderstorms the rest of the evening until the watch ends at 5 a.m.
