Trib Total Media has earned a spot on Forbes magazine’s inaugural list of America’s Best Small Employers.

The Trib was ranked No. 69 out of 300 small businesses featured on the list, which was released Tuesday to highlight the top companies that employ nearly half of the American workforce.

“We are proud and honored to join the companies on this impressive list that are shaping the business landscape,” said Trib Total Media President and CEO Jennifer Bertetto. “This recognition validates our efforts to foster a culture in which employees feel valued while working in a very challenging industry.”

The recognition “serves to reinforce your standing as a company that provides excellent employment opportunities on a national level,” according to market research firm Statista, which partnered with Forbes to compile the list.

The 300 businesses on the list were identified from tens of thousands of companies that employ between 200 and 1,000 people, according to Forbes magazine. The Trib employs nearly 260 people.

The company, with headquarters in Tarentum, prints two editions of the Tribune-Review and also has offices in Greensburg and Pittsburgh. It maintains TribLIVE.com, one of the most visited news websites in Western Pennsylvania, and TribLIVE Local, which includes dozens of hyper-local news websites.

Placement on the final list was awarded based on a scoring model that considered anonymous surveys of employees using targeted access panels as well as open participation from the public. Other tools used in the scoring included the tracking of job-related websites to gauge employer reputation, engagement, retention, benefits and more.

The Trib is the only news media organization on the list. Fifteen other companies from Pennsylvania made the list, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, EQT and the law firm of Saul Ewing LLC. The industry that is most represented is education, including Franklin & Marshall College and Susquehanna University.
