Troopers searching for pair who fled I-79 traffic stop
MCKEAN — Pennsylvania State Police troopers are searching for two people who fled from a traffic stop along Interstate 79, then ran off after their vehicle crashed off the McKean exit.
The incident was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Monday. According to state police, an attempt was made to stop a white Honda with North Carolina license plates for traffic violations as the vehicle was traveling north on I-79.
The vehicle fled from the traffic stop and continued north, exiting at the McKean exit. The car traveled off the off-ramp and through a grassy area, where it toppled a traffic sign. The car then traveled across West Road where it hit a guard rail and came to rest.
Two of the occupants of the vehicle, described as a black male and a black female in their late teens or early 20s, ran off from the vehicle.
State police troopers remain in the area searching for them. At least one other person who was in the vehicle was taken into custody, according to a state police corporal at the scene.
State police are asking anyone who might see someone suspicious in the area matching the description of the suspects to call state police in Girard at 814-774-9611.
