UPMC acquires another Ireland hospital
UPMC has acquired a third hospital in Ireland, the Pittsburgh-based health system announced Monday.
The system is expanding services at Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny. The 105-year-old hospital will be renamed UPMC Aut Even Hospital. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Aut Even will be operated in addition to the system’s other services in the country, including two other hospitals: UPMC Whitfield, which was acquired in 2018, and UPMC Kildare, added in 2019. UPMC also runs a radiotherapy center in Cork and recently opened a sports medicine clinic in Waterford. In June, the system announced plans for a Global Technology Operations Center in Kilkenny.
“Our growing footprint in Ireland means that more patients in more places will have access to health care managed by a leading academic medical center focused on providing cutting-edge treatments and world-class quality to every patient we serve,” Charles Bogosta, president of UPMC International, said in a statement.
Aut Even is a 71-bed elective, private hospital with an 18-bed surgery unit, according to a news release. It currently provides services across more than 20 specialties, including orthopedics, ophthalmology, gynecology, endoscopy and radiology.
Aut Even’s services will be coordinated in tandem with nearby UPMC Whitfield, said David Beirne, managing director of UPMC in Ireland and senior vice president of UPMC International.
“With the acquisition of Aut Even, UPMC will expand patient choice for receiving trusted, high-quality care in Ireland, he said in a statement. “UPMC also expects to continue working closely with our public hospital partners, as we’ve done both before and during the covid-19 pandemic, to assist in providing needed care to all patients.”
In addition to several locations in Ireland, UPMC operates locations in Italy, China and Kazakhstan.
