Unknown vandals caused more than $5,000 worth of damage to a high school football field in Armstrong County, according to state police.

State police said the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday at West Shamokin High School, part of the Armstrong School District on Wolf Drive in Cowanshannock Township.

According to state police, someone drove a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle through a locked gate at the school and onto the football field, ripping the turf. They drove out through another locked gate.

The vehicle had an LED lightbar mounted on the roof, state police said.

Damage estimates were $4,000 for the metal gates, $600 for gate latches, $300 for soccer field grass and $150 for the football field turf.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-543-2011.
