Cellphone outages and spotty service were being reported by many Verizon Wireless customers Tuesday morning, with problems popping up across the Pittsburgh region and beyond.

Customers from Ross to Moon to McKeesport have posted on social media about cell service being down — and then up and down again.

Verizon spokesman David Weissmann said company officials were aware of an issue that disrupted wireless service.

“Our engineers identified the issue and service is now restored,” he said.

According to the website Is the Service Down, outages spiked just before 5:30 a.m.

Troubles were reported by users from communities scattered across Western Pennsylvania, from Erie to Pittsburgh’s Downtown and Greensburg.

Downdetector.com showed the largest swath of Verizon outages in the country occurring in Western Pennsylvania.
