Veterans Day deals for vets, active-duty military around Western Pa.
The region’s longstanding support of veterans and active-duty military personnel will be on display again this Veterans Day as businesses, restaurants and fraternal groups offer discounted meals and services.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11, in recognition of the day the armistice was reached to end the fighting in World War I.
Haircuts
The Salon Boutique at 219 Sunview Drive, Jeannette, is offering free haircuts to all veterans from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9. Food and refreshments will be available.
Elks meals
The Norwin Elks will serve a complimentary spaghetti dinner, including salad and dessert, for all active-duty military and veterans from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Elks Lodge, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. Family members and/or guests will need to pay for their meals.
The Elks will offer a military discount at its monthly breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 10. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 10. Children under age 6 eat for free. Active-duty military personnel and veterans will be charged $5.
Reservations are not necessary, but to reserve a table for a specific number of guests and a time, call the Elks at 724-863-3000.
Convenience stores
Convenience store chain Sheetz Inc. is offering a free six-inch turkey sub and a regular size fountain drink at any store on Veterans Day. Sheetz locations with car washes will provide a free wash to veterans and active-duty military.
The 7-Eleven convenience store chain is offering free coffee of any size for all Veterans Advantage members Nov. 8-11. VetRewards subscribers get 1,000 bonus points on $10+ purchases all year.
Pancake breakfast
Veterans can eat for free at the Level Green Lions’ pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until noon Nov. 16 at the Lions Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road. Cost for others is $6 per person, $3 for children younger than 12.
Dental care
Veterans can get free dental exams, oral cancer screenings, X-rays, fillings and extractions at Smiles By Hart at 4700 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh. Veterans must make appointments for the Nov. 11 event at 412-681-8011. Proof of veteran status is required through drivers license with a veteran indicator or discharge papers.
Yoga
Yoga U at 3608 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh will have a free class Monday from 11 a..-noon for veterans and active duty military members. No experience is necessary. The class will be led by yoga teachers who regularly volunteer their services at the VA.
The class is limited to 20 participants. Register in advance at 412-683-2408.
Chain discounts
Several regional and national chains with outlets in Western Pennsylvania are offering free or discounted meals. In many cases, veterans and active-duty military must show proof of service.
• Applebee’s: Free meal from a limited menu on Veterans Day.
• Bed Bath & Beyond: VetRewards’ subscribers receive 25% off their entire in-store shopping cart from Nov. 9-11.
• Bob Evans Restaurants: Free select menu items on Veterans Day.
• Buffalo Wild Wings: “Wings for Heroes” — one small order of wings with a side of fries on Veterans Day.
• Cracker Barrel: Complimentary pumpkin pie latte or a slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake on Veterans Day.
• Eat’n Park: A 10% discount for all active-duty military, veterans and their families for the entire month of November.
• Friendly’s: Free breakfast, lunch or dinner from a select menu on Veterans Day.
• Golden Corral: Free dinner for active military and veterans from 5 to 9 p.m. on Veterans Day.
• IHOP/IHOB: Free red, white and blue pancakes with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream on Veterans Day.
• Joe’s Crab Shack: A 20% discount on parties of four or less on Veterans Day.
• Little Caesars: Free pizza or $5 hot-n-ready lunch combo on Veterans Day.
• Max & Erma’s: Free “best cheeseburger in America combo,” including seasoned fries and a drink on Veterans Day. Dine-in only.
• Olive Garden: Free entree from a select menu on Veterans Day.
• Outback Steakhouse: Special heroes discount Nov. 8 - 11.
• Red Lobster: Military Mondays, a 10% discount, including Veterans Day.
• Red Robin: Free dine-in Red’s tavern double burger and bottomless steak fries on Veterans Day.
• TGI Fridays: Free lunch menu item up to $12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12. Guests also will receive a $5 coupon for their next meal.
• Texas Roadhouse: Choose from 10 lunch offers, including a complimentary beverage, on Veterans Day.
