Virtual job fair May 27 to replace traditional one

With large gatherings prohibited because of the coronavirus-related restrictions, the Pittsburgh Technology Council will hold a virtual job fair on Wednesday, May 27.

The event is billed as an opportunity for companies to expand their pipeline of tech talent, as well as a “time efficient solution to recruitment efforts.”

The Virtual Hire Up job fair will focus on technical employees seeking part-time and full-time work or internships, the technology council said. Non-technical workers can participate in the job fair, which will be online from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can accessed from the Technology Council website.

The technology council said it hopes the event will connect displaced and underemployed regional workers with local companies hiring technical and corporate employees.

Among the companies registered to attend are Amazon, Astrobotic, CGI, Giant Eagle, Highmark, Lucas Systems, Philips, PNC Financial, SDLC Partners and the University of Pittsburgh.

For those companies not hiring at this time, or which had layoffs, the job fair could serve as outplacement support for displaced workers, the technology council.

The job fair will give companies a “personal chat room” to connect with job seekers, including the option to conduct video interviews. An unlimited number of recruiters may attend chat sessions and there will not be a limit on the number of jobs being posted. Employers can search resumes and invite selected candidates to the chat room.

The job fair is free to employers that are members of the technology council, but fees are charged to non-members.
