Police in the city of Washington on Monday charged a 17-year-old as an adult in connection with a Sunday night robbery and shooting at a convenience store.

Police allege that Julian Asbury, of Washington, was one of three armed teens who tried to rob the Washington Food Mart in the 700 block of West Chestnut Street, during which a customer was shot.

Charges against Asbury include conspiracy to attempt criminal homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a firearm without a license, and reckless endangerment.

According to Washington police, officers responded around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to a reported robbery in progress at the Washington Food Mart.

Officers found a woman had been shot multiple times. She was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital and was last known to be in stable condition.

Police said their investigation found that the woman had been playing the games-of-chance machines inside the store when three armed people entered to rob the store. The woman was legally carrying a concealed firearm, and was shot when she tried to draw it to defend herself, police said.

The three suspects were all believed to be in their mid-to-late teens, police said.

Asbury was denied bail at an arraignment Monday and sent to the Washington County Jail, according to court records. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
