Expect a busy weekend on Pittsburgh roads — especially along the Parkway East, where traffic will be squeezed into a single lane as part of a construction project.
The parkway will have lane restrictions this weekend affecting the city of Pittsburgh and the boroughs of Edgewood, Swissvale, Wilkinsburg and Churchill in Allegheny County, according to PennDOT.
Restrictions will occur Friday night through Monday morning — weather permitting.
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, traffic will be down to a single lane on I-376 in both directions between Exit 79B (Churchill) and the Commercial Street Bridge.
PennDOT said crews will conduct concrete median barrier replacement work.
“Please use caution if traveling in the corridor,” PennDOT said in the Thursday release. “Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
The Three Rivers Arts Festival, which runs from Thursday to Sunday, will bring a significant amount of traffic to Pittsburgh, along with the Pirates home games against the Phillies at PNC Park.
To stay updated, PennDOT said it created an email distribution list for Parkway East traffic advisories and construction updates. People can enroll by sending email addresses to ymanyisha@pa.gov and writing “Subscribe – Parkway East” in the subject line.
Otherwise, traffic updates can be found on the I-376 Parkway East – Churchill to Monroeville webpage, PennDOT’s social media page on X (@511PAPittsburgh) or joining the Greater Pittsburgh Area PennDOT Facebook group, PennDOT said.
