Freezing temperatures spurred many Western Pennsylvania school districts to call for two-hour delays Tuesday morning.
The temperature in the Pittsburgh area was negative one degree just before 5 a.m., National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Frazier said. With the wind chill, it may feel like negative 3 to 5 degrees.
“Winds are going to continue to stay light, so there’s not going to be a whole lot of impact from the winds here this morning. We’ll start to slowly warm up through the morning hours, but it’s going to be cold for those (who) commute,” Frazier said.
A list of schools and businesses closed or on delays is posted on news partner WPXI-TV’s website. Updated weather information will be posted on the NWS Twitter page.
Temperatures will climb throughout the day, with a high of 32 degrees expected.
“We have warm air that’s going to start moving into the region and help to warm us up, but that doesn’t negate that cold start we’re going to have this morning,” Frazier said.
