It’s going to get hot in the Pittsburgh region this weekend.

As a heat wave sweeps across the nation, the area will see temperatures upward of 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperatures are expected in the upper 80s on Friday and Saturday and low-to-mid 90s on Sunday, according to Lee Hendricks, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon.

Sunny skies and high humidity are anticipated throughout the weekend with a slight chance of thunderstorms, Hendricks said.

“Unfortunately we’re not going to get a lot of breezes that will help with the humidity and heat,” he said. “We’re looking at a sticky weekend.”

The area should cool down on Monday as there is a high chance of rain beginning Sunday night.

Over 85% of Americans will sweat through temperatures above 90 degrees this weekend, according to CNN.

How to stay cool

There are several measures you can take to cool down during a heat wave. Hendricks recommended staying hydrated, wearing a hat and light colors, and working outdoors in the morning or evening.

Those with heart conditions or respiratory problems should stay in the air conditioning, he said.

Additionally, pet owners should be sure to keep their furry friends hydrated and out of the heat for long periods of time.

Residents can also seek out a cooling center in their area. Pittsburgh CitiParks has been operating numerous centers this week.
