Woman faces DUI charges after crashing into Jimmy Wan's restaurant in Cranberry
A woman is facing charges of driving under the influence after she crashed her car through the front of a restaurant in Cranberry late Tuesday night causing thousands of dollars in damage to the building.
The vehicle crashed into Jimmy Wan’s restaurant along Route 228 shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to police.
Eddie Clokey, a property manager for the restaurant, said they are thankful the wreck happened after the restaurant was closed.
Had the crash occurred earlier, he said, a hostess would likely have been stationed at the front desk.
The car hit the building’s glass front with such force that only the vehicle’s trunk was visible from the outside.
Cellphone video of the crash’s aftermath posted by Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV shows the black Cadillac dragging debris as the driver attempts to back out of the building.
A restoration crew was at the restaurant early this morning to clear the shattered glass and other debris before boarding up the entrance, Clokey said.
“I think once we get the front boarded up and clear the mess, we’ll be able to reopen, possibly even today,” Clokey said.
The restaurant has been operating in Cranberry since 2006.
Cranberry police Chief Kevin Meyer said charges of driving under the influence are expected to be filed against the driver — a 21-year-old woman from Florida. Her name was not released.
Meyer said blood was drawn from the woman to determine whether she had alcohol or drugs in her system.
She was released from custody this morning.
“The damage appears to be quite extensive,” Meyer said. “We’re happy that nobody was hurt.”
A second Jimmy Wan’s restaurant is located along Old Freeport Road in O’Hara.
