Police have ruled a woman’s death a homicide after her body was found in a field in Beaver County Wednesday morning.

The woman, identified as Sharon Benyo, 46, of Beaver Falls, was found in the 2400 block of Route 51, also know as Constitution Boulevard, in Chippewa Township around 8:15 p.m., according to a state police report.

Benyo’s body was found by utility workers, Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV reported. According to the police report, the scene was secured by Chippewa Township police who called in state police for assistance. The scene was processed by forensic services.

WPXI reported that Benyo was the ex-wife of Beaver County Defense Attorney Gerald Benyo. She was released from state prison about three weeks ago and was on track to get her life in order, Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier said during a news conference.

Lozier asked that anyone who had seen Benyo in the past three days in the areas of New Brighton, Beaver Falls or Chippewa, call Chippewa Township or state police. He also asked that anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle pulling off Route 51 westbound, west of McKinley Avenue contact police.

Chippewa Township police are working with the Beaver County Coroner’s office and state police.
