The Depreciation Lands Museum in Hampton Township has canceled plans to reopen after the state-mandated shutdown because of renewed concerns about the need to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The board of directors nixed the July 12 reopening and plan to discuss when the Colonial-era living history museum will resume operations when it meets on Aug. 5, according to a museum official.
Although Allegheny County reported a decrease in covid-19 cases on Monday, the lower number comes a little less than two weeks after the county experienced a record-setting 233 cases on July 2.
Several changes were planned for Sunday’s reopening to allow for proper social distancing, including roping off walkways inside the buildings to create distance between visitors and presenters, and prohibiting patrons from touching displays. But recent guidance from health officials has renewed concerns about the safety of public gatherings during the covid-19 pandemic.
