With students in the Pine-Richland High School Band performing as they marched up the midway, so came the start of the 30th annual Richland Township Community Day.

Members of Richland American Legion subsequently raised the U.S. flag while sisters Claire and Raegan Dosch provided vocal harmonies for “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

For the Aug. 10 event, Richland Community Park was full of attractions, from a variety of booths offering information, food and fun to hayrides, a trackless train, inflatable rides and laughs courtesy of Giggles the Clown.

On the main stage, entertainment included performance by dance school students, musicians from Sing Sing Sing music school, and BB Steal with tunes from the ’80s. And in keeping with Pittsburgh-area tradition, fireworks lit the sky at nightfall.

Township manager Brian O’Malley welcomed guests by introducing the Richland board of supervisors — Skip Allen, Ray Kendrick, John Marshall, Ann Miller and Donna Snyder — and acknowledging the work of the public works department and parks and recreation department, particularly coordinator Melissa Williams, in organizing the event.

Mother Nature cooperated for Community Day, with scattered clouds and breezes making the temperature and humidity much more agreeable than what Western Pennsylvania experienced for much of the summer.

And everyone in attendance had to be happy for that.
