Richland has been named a banner community by the Allegheny League of Municipalities for the 12th consecutive year.
The banner community program recognizes municipalities that distinguish themselves as model communities through their outstanding commitment to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders.
“I just wanted to highlight all of the good things that Richland Township does. I think that’s a nice way to celebrate everything that the board does — good governance, administration,” township Manager Brian O’Malley said.
Supervisors Chairman Ray Kendrick remarked on how Vice Chairman George “Skip” Allen had started the project to get the township recognized as a banner community back when the program started.
“I just thought it was pretty much common sense. Let’s advertise what we do and how well we do it,” Allen said about his efforts.
The banner community announcement coincides with Local Government Week in Richland, officially declared by Resolution No. 19 of 2024. Local Government Week takes place from April 13-19. The week recognizes the essential role that municipalities play in delivering vital services, such as police, fire, EMS and public works, every day of the year.
Supervisor Donna Snyder and Assistant Manager Natalie Thiess accepted the award during the 2025 ALOM Spring Educational Conference, held April 3-6 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
