Rivers Casino resumes construction of 'Landing Hotel Pittsburgh'
It sat for a year, idled by the pandemic.
But now, with an end to the covid-19 crisis seemingly in sight, construction on Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $60 million, “The Landing Hotel Pittsburgh” resumed this week.
Cranes from local general contractor Massaro Corp. have returned to the site. Steel beam framing is expected to resume within the next few days, according to a statement from the casino.
“We’re very proud to be part of the city’s economic reboot,” said Steve Massaro, president of Massaro Corp. “’The Landing Hotel’ will be a perfect complement to Rivers Casino and a welcome new addition to Pittsburgh’s skyline.”
The seven-story, four-star hotel represents a huge, privately funded undertaking for the casino which is banking on the new property bringing in more business. Once finished, it’s expected to have 219 guest rooms attached to the casino’s east façade, facing the Carnegie Science Center.
Ground was broken in August 2019.
“We’re excited to get ‘The Landing Hotel Pittsburgh’ back underway,” said Bud Green, assistant general manager of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “It’s been a long time coming, and we’re eager to add this new hospitality venue to our North Shore offerings.”
Casino officials say the project restart is expected to bring 1,400 temporary construction jobs as well as 128 new permanent jobs when the hotel opens.
The casino expects “The Landing Hotel” to open sometime next year.
