Rotary sets fundraising goal for Chicken BBQ at Bethel Park High School
Through its annual Chicken BBQ fundraiser, the Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Breakfast Club has a goal this year of generating $55,000 through the Oct. 26 event.
“In 1989, the first Chicken BBQ fundraiser successfully earned just $8,000 to help a pair of local teenagers in need of a bone marrow transplant. Today, the event raises well over $50,000,” said Sally Morrison, who is co-chairing the event. “But more than that, we are most excited by the involvement of our two strong communities.”
More than 1,500 chickens will be on the grill as early as 8 a.m. on BBQ day in preparation for packing more than 3,000 dinners. Each dinner, costing $15, includes half a grilled chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, a dinner roll and dessert.
“With 50-plus volunteers, students and staff on hand from both Bethel Park High School and Upper St. Clair High School, the day is a breeze,” said co-chair Teresa Kozleuchar. “We are a well-oiled machine and even have a convenient drive-through set up at Bethel Park High school, so you don’t even need to leave your car.”
The drive-through is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit local organizations such as Bethel-St. Clair Meals on Wheels, police and fire departments, youth camps and sports.
