Temporary barriers are installed along route 28 near the Highland Park Bridge Monday. Jan 18, 2021, as phase one of the long term construction project begins to install a third lane to relieve trafic congestion.

The Delafield Road interchange northbound ramps (Exit 7) on Route 28 in Pittsburgh will close Monday morning, weather permitting.

The closure will allow crews to install rumble strips.

Here’s the closure schedule:

• Northbound Route 28 to Delafield Avenue (Exit 7): About 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.;

• Delafield Avenue to northbound Route 28: About 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Ramp traffic will be detoured except for emergency vehicles.

Here are the posted detours:

From northbound Route 28 to Delafield Avenue (Exit 7):

• From northbound Route 28, continue past the closed ramp;

• Take the Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road off-ramp (Exit 8);

• Bear right toward Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road;

• Turn right onto Freeport Road

• Follow Freeport Road back to Delafield Avenue.

End detour.

From the opposite direction, Delafield Avenue to northbound Route 28:

• From Delafield Avenue, take Freeport Road northbound;

• Follow Freeport Road to Fox Chapel Road;

• Turn left onto Fox Chapel Road;

• Turn left onto northbound Route 28.

The work is part of the $15.32 million project to improve approximately 3.5 miles of Route 28 between the Delafield Avenue exit (Exit 7) and the Harmar Township line, which is about 1.75 miles north of the RIDC Park (Exit 10) interchange.
