Members of the North Allegheny School Board showered district Safety and Security Manager Dan Stack on Oct. 25 with words of appreciation just moments before voting to eliminate his position.

Stack has been the safety and security manager for the North Allegheny School District since July 2021.

But the board also voted on Oct. 25 to create an armed school police force under the direction of a school chief of police, safety and security.

Once the chief is hired, the position of safety and security manager will be eliminated. NA is seeking applicants for the chief’s position.

Stack declined to comment.

Board Director Paige Hardy said Stack was responsible for improving NA’s already positive relationships with local emergency responders and police departments in the area, installing internal locks in district and examining what personnel had keys to locks throughout the district.

“I’m sorry this restructuring means he’ll be leaving the district,” Hardy said.

Board members also said they received positive comments from the community and staff about his contributions.

“I think we all value him. Not just in his position here but in his position in the community,” said Board President Libby Blackburn.

“Dan is devoted to his job in North Allegheny and is passionate about safety and preparedness. He is kind and steady and incredibly pleasant to work with,” board Director Elizabeth Warner said.

Among his efforts, Warner said, he was responsible for implementing the large black and gold signs over the doorways in school buildings to help aid first responders with navigation in emergencies.

“I had total faith that he would do anything to make us safe,” Warner said.
