Saying goodbye to that live Christmas tree
North Allegheny communities have made preparations for disposal of live Christmas trees after the holiday. Allegheny County also is offering a Christmas tree recycling program at county parks.
Here’s the run-down:
Franklin Park
The first week of Christmas tree collection will start Monday, Jan. 10, and the second week will be Monday, Jan. 17. All trees must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on either of those two Mondays. The Public Works Department will only make one trip for each scheduled collection but it may take up to a week to retrieve all borough trees.
Do not leave any plastic items or any decorations on the tree and do not place Christmas trees at the Yard Waste Drop off Site on Blaine’s Way.
Trees that do not make the curbside collection can be taken to Blueberry Hill Park, and placed next to the brush chipping pile. People are encouraged to look for the appropriate signs.
McCandless Township:
McCandless Public Works Department crews will collect Christmas trees for recycling Monday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 14.
Officials ask people to please be sure to remove all decorations before putting the tree at the curb.
After Jan. 14 and until Jan. 28, residents will be permitted to put Christmas trees at the curb for regular trash pickup by Waste Management free of charge, and with no need to call ahead.
For residents who live on on a private road, which may include some roads in townhouse communities, Waste Management will pick up those trees for the entire month.
Those who have additional questions regarding tree pickup can call 412-364-0616 Ext. 184.
Marshall Township
The Christmas Tree Pickup with Vogel Disposal Services is scheduled for the weeks of Jan. 10 and Jan. 17, according to the township website.
Bradford Woods
There is no special collection site for Christmas trees. Residents are referred to the Allegheny County tree recycling disposal sites at county parks.
Allegheny County
The Allegheny County Parks Department is offering its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program. Residents may drop off Christmas trees from Sunday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at all nine county parks from 8 a.m. until dusk.
At North Park, collections will be made in the swimming pool parking lot, and at Hartwood Acres, collections will be in the Middle Road parking lot.
