Sewickley United Methodist Church

Antioch Baptist Church

Beth Samuel Jewish Center offers weekly Shabbat services, family services once a month and Kabbalat Shabbat services online once per month. There is also Religious School every Sunday.

Shabbat Morning Services: Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary, followed by a Kiddush in the social hall.

Kabbalat Shabbat Services: Usually on the third Friday of the month, at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Contact the office for the link. This get-together frequently includes a visiting musician, cantor, rabbi or other noteworthy guest.

Sewickley Presbyterian Church

Summer Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the dining room. Both services are live­streamed online.

The Day on the Lawn rummage sale will be held on Sept. 6. Donations are welcome and will be accepted on July 19, Aug. 16, and Aug. 30 from 9 a.m.-noon. Visit the website to view donation guidelines before bringing donations to the church.

Sewickley United Methodist Church

Sewickley United Methodist Church has two services each Sunday: 9 a.m. contemporary, featuring our praise band Leap of Faith; and 11 a.m. traditional, with nursery care and children’s ministries during both services.

The church is a reconciling congregation and openly welcomes all people.

Children and youth entering preschool through eighth grade are invited to participate in “Block Party: Growing God’s Community,” a free Community VBS hosted by St. Matthews AME Zion, St. Paul’s Lutheran and Sewickley UMC churches from Aug. 3-6. SUMC is partnering with St. Paul’s Lutheran and St. Matthews AME Zion churches of Sewickley to explore some of God’s most important building blocks, such as love, courage, kindness, commitment, teamwork and action. There will be Bible stories, music, recreation, snacks and plenty of hands-on opportunities with Legos and other types of blocks. There are separate tracks for preschool, primary and middle school students.

Our VBS is offered later in the summer than most programs, but we like to think of our program as a path toward the new school year. Invite classmates, teammates, cousins and neighbors. Our “Block Party” is free for any children and youth from any community.

St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church

St. Brendan’s is an open, welcoming and active church that holds in-person worship with Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sundays and 5 p.m. Wednesdays.

The Sunday 10 a.m. service can be livestreamed or accessed later on YouTube; for families attending in person, a nursery is available for infants and toddlers. Sunday School and the monthly 10 a.m. Children’s Service are on hiatus for the summer.

The parish is supporting the North Hills Food Bank this month by collecting donations of canned vegetables, chili, beef stew, tomato sauce and spaghetti sauce. Donations may be left in the church lobby.

Brendan’s Boots, the parish walking group, will trek the Three Rivers Heritage Trail between Washington’s Landing and PNC Park on July 17, leaving the church at 9 a.m. Participants will enjoy lunch outdoors afterwards at Redfin Blues.

The church’s Adopt-a-Highway crew will hit the road July 19 at 8:30 a.m. for its second litter cleanup of the year. St. Brendan’s beautification site is the Camp Horne Road interchange of I-279.

Parishioners are invited to attend St. Brendan’s Night at the Pirates (vs. the Detroit Tigers) at 6:40 p.m. on July 22 at PNC Park. Tickets are $30.

The next Taize will take place on July 30, at 5 p.m. The quiet, contemplative service provides time for meditation and a pause in the busy pace of modern life.

Plans are being made for the Annual Parish Picnic on Aug. 3 at Maple Grove Pavilion in Blueberry Hill Park, Franklin Park. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with an outdoor Eucharist service followed by food, fellowship and fun.

St. Brendan’s Book Club will meet Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. to discuss “The God of the Woods” by Liz Moore. Two worlds collide in the novel after a teenager vanishes from an Adirondack summer camp.

Parishioners are invited to pick up an empty backpack at church, fill it with school supplies for needy students and return it by Aug. 10. The backpacks will be distributed to several elementary schools in and around Pittsburgh.

Sticks & Strings, the church group that likes to knit, crochet or embroider, meets on the third Tuesday and first Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the library.

St. Matthews AME Zion Church

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

Sunday worship is at 9 a.m.; Sunday school at 10:15 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Weekly Bible study is at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the Edgeworth Eat’n Park.

The Kids’ Community Closet is a “free-cycle” community space to share kids’ clothes (birth through size 14/16). All clothing is free and in good, very gently used condition — some items still have tags on. There are no applications, income requirements, or donations necessary.

The Kids’ Community Closet is located at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, and noon to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

St. Stephen’s Anglican Church

The church is collecting $25 gift cards for back-to-school for our Side by Side Moms group. Please consider helping the single moms in our community get their kids ready to go back to school.
