Citizenship awards
Quaker Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Tammy Andreyko recognized the winners of the Superintendent Citizenship Award, which can be earned in fifth, eighth and 12th grades at each school.
Andreyko presented the awards to Abby Johnson, Brody Jones, Hannah Olawaiye, Katie Schillo and Liam Welge.
Each year, the Quaker Valley School Board gives out an award to an outstanding senior. This year, Maggie McManus received the award for her dedication to learning, commitment to responsible citizenship and personifying the value of a Quaker Valley education.
During her time at Quaker Valley, McManus has been on the student council, serving as vice-president, and this year as president. She serves as a volunteer math teacher and enjoys enhancing young students’ understanding and improving their math skills. McManus is also the captain of the girls tennis team and works as an assistant tennis pro in her spare time. She has been a Girl Scout since 2013 and last summer received the Girl Scout Gold Award.
In the fall, she will attend Texas Christian University.
Marietta College SGA
Marietta College’s Andrew Novak recently was elected to be senior representative for the 2021-22 Student Government Association on campus. Novak, a graduate of Quaker Valley High School, is majoring in political science and is scheduled to graduate in May of 2022. Elections were held in April.
U.S. Naval Academy graduate
Anna Katherine Farnan successfully completed four years of challenging academic, physical and professional military training, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor of science degree in science and a commission as a U.S Navy Ens. She is a graduate of Quaker Valley High School.
At the academy, Farnan was the president of Swing Dance Club, vice president of Ballroom Dance, stage manager of the Halloween Concert 2018 and 2019, a member of the women’s rugby team and battalion officer for ATFP with rank MIDN LTJG.
