Antioch Baptist Church

Beth Samuel Jewish Center

Beth Samuel Jewish Center offers weekly Shabbat services, monthly family and Zoom Kabbalat Shabbat services, and a Sunday Religious School, as well as holiday services, social events and adult education seminars. Regular events are as follows:

Shabbat Services are every Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a kiddush in the social hall.

First Friday Family Kabbalat Shabbat Services are usually the first Friday of the month at 7 p.m., followed by an oneg in the social hall. (Check website calendar to confirm.)

Zoom Kabbalat Shabbat Services are usually on the third Friday of the month, at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Contact the office for the link. This get-together frequently includes a visiting musician, cantor, rabbi or other noteworthy guest.

The Divine Redeemer Respect Life Committee receives many urgent requests for infants’ and children’s clothing, especially with the change of seasons. Single adults over the age of 21 are invited to join ASPIRE (Adult Single People: Inspiring, Relating, Evolving) for a Christmas Party. The fall schedule has worship services at 8, 9 and 11 a.m., and a Christian Education hour for all ages at 10 a.m.

The after-school group, Club 345, runs from 3:45-5 p.m. on Wednesdays. This is for students in grades 3, 4 and 5. Throughout the school year, kids will enjoy snacks, great conversations, games, Bible lessons and hands-on activities that teach skills they can use to serve others — like craft making, cooking, flower arranging and more. Sewickley United Methodist Church

Worship services are held every Sunday at 9 a.m. (contemporary) and 11 a.m. (traditional), with children’s ministry offered in every service. Adult Sunday school is held between services. Youth group gathers Sundays at 1 p.m. Bible study is held Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church

St. Brendan’s is an open, welcoming and active church that holds in-person worship with Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays, and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Sunday School for children of kindergarten age and up and nursery coverage for infants and toddlers is offered at the Sunday 10 o’clock service, which is live-streamed on YouTube.

The Discernment Committee has published information on the parish website regarding the search for St. Brendan’s next full-time priest-in-charge. For complete details, go to stbrendans.org and open the documents tab. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 1.

The monthly Children’s Service in December will be the annual Christmas Pageant on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m.

The Youth Group meets on the third Sunday of every month after the 10 a.m. service. Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend. Lessons from the Journey to Adulthood program will focus on the relationship of young people with Jesus through learning, praying and serving together.

The Book Club will meet on Dec. 1 in the library to discuss “Born a Crime” by comedian Trevor Noah. The autobiography tells the story of his experiences as the child of a Black South African mother and a white Swiss father during apartheid.

The parish is helping the North Hills Food Bank this month by collecting stuffing mix, canned yams and other canned vegetables, cranberry sauce and biscuit mix. Other non-perishable food items and paper products will also be gladly accepted. Donations may be left in the church lobby.

St. Brendan’s is supporting the Neighborhood Resilience Project of Pittsburgh with a clothing drive for adults and children. Gently worn coats and other warm clothing, including sweatpants and socks, will be collected in the church lobby until Dec. 21.

Sticks & Strings, the church group that likes to knit, crochet or embroider, meets on the third Tuesday and first Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the library.

St. John’s Lutheran Church

The congregation of St. John’s Lutheran Church will present a live outdoor Nativity on Dec. 6. The living celebration of faith begins at 5 p.m., and repeats every 20 minutes until the last presentation, which starts at 7:20 p.m. The cast includes live animals — donkeys, camels, sheep, goats and cattle.

The dining room, serving authentic German food, will be open from 3-7:30 p.m. Christmas cookies will be available for purchase. The public is cordially invited to celebrate with us.

The historic church building will be open to the public and guided tours will be offered from 2 to 7:20 p.m.

In addition, Old Economy Village will be hosting Christmas at the Village. The event takes place at the beautifully decorated, candlelit 19th-century village. It will feature local musical performances and holiday lights, along with kids’ crafts and activities, and the opportunity to meet Belsnickel, the Pennsylvania Dutch Santa Claus.

St. Matthews AME Zion Church

Sunday school is 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning service is 10:30 a.m.

On Sewickley Light Up Night, Dec. 5, beginning at 5 p.m., the church will offer three soups to choose from, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. Come get warmed up.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

Sunday worship is at 9 a.m.; Sunday school for children and adults after worship will be held every other week. Please check the website calendar for dates. Weekly Bible study is at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the Edgeworth Eat’n Park.

The Kids’ Community Closet is a “free-cycle” community space to share kids’ clothes (birth through size 14/16). All clothing is free and in good, very gently used condition — some items still have tags on. There are no applications, income requirements, or donations necessary.

The Kids’ Community Closet is located at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, and noon to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

St. Stephen’s Anglican Church

Joining in Sewickley Borough’s Light up Night on Dec. 5, stop in the Henning House of the church campus (327 Broad St.) to warm up and grab a cup of hot chocolate!

Due to an increased need for food in our local communities, we are collecting canned soup and crackers to help the Center for Hope in Ambridge build dinner bags for families and individuals experiencing hunger. Volunteers are needed to sort and match toys to families from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 6. Community service hours are available. A sign-up sheet is in the fellowship area.

Volunteers are needed for the fourth Friday of every month for Triumph’s food distribution. From 2-4 p.m., volunteers will set up and package food and from 5-7 p.m., volunteers will distribute and break down the setup. Visit the website to sign up.
