Donations have been made to help pay outstanding student lunch balances in Quaker Valley School District.

“This is such an amazing gift from our local community. We are so thankful to everyone for their support and helping our families in need,” said district director of food and nutrition services, Carla Escribano.

The Quaker Valley Rotary Club offered a challenge grant of $3,500 to offset the breakfast and lunch fees for students in need if the district could find a matching grant.

Escribano reached out to local agencies and quickly matched the grant. Thanks to donations from FRIENDS of Quaker Valley Schools ($2,000), The Sewickley Presbyterian Church ($1,000), and Union Aid ($500), the district received $7,000.

“The district is very thankful to receive such wonderful support from community groups like the Rotary, FRIENDS, The Presbyterian Church and Union Aid. It underscores what a special place Quaker Valley is,” said Quaker Valley school board president Jonathan Kuzma.

Rotary president Scott Zahner said his organization was happy to get involved.

“The Quaker Valley Rotary Club is proud to help pay off the outstanding student lunch balances during these difficult and extraordinary times. The Rotary is a community service-based organization, and we want to help the boroughs and townships that comprise the Quaker Valley district,” Zahner said.
