Edgeworth officials plan to repair about five roads as part of this year’s paving program.

Council approved an estimated $407,000 contract with Wampum-based Youngblood Paving earlier this year.

Youngblood was the lowest of five bidders and handled last year’s Edgewood paving contract, according to borough manager John Schwend.

“They were a very good company to work with, very easy to work with and (delivered a) high-quality product,” he said.

The borough budgeted $417,000 for paving this year.

Streets to be improved include:

• Woodland Road from Chestnut Road to West Drive.

• All of West Drive.

• All of Edgeworth Lane.

• The 600 block of Maple Lane.

• Beaver Road from its 300 block to near Edgeworth Lane.

Roads are evaluated annually. The paving budget was bumped a few thousand dollars compared to last year due to rising costs.

Council vice president Dave Aloe commended public works supervisor Fred Gregorich Jr. and Schwend for keeping an eye on the roads.

“We rely on the professional staff,” Aloe said. “If you come into the community you’ll probably see them driving around looking for what’s up in Edgeworth. They put a priority on it. It eliminates a lot of surprises. Nothing ever gets shaky.”

Road repairs are expected to begin in late August or early September and be completed by mid-September.
