Fern Hollow Nature Center, 1901 Glen Mitchell Road, is offering summer programs for children and families.

With the “Rent a Naturalist” program, small groups can accompany a naturalist on a discovery trek. The program is customizable, with topics including fishing, archery, creek exploration, bird watching and more.

Treks are two hours for groups of 2 to 8 people. The fee is $75 for members and $100 for non-members.

Members can also use the grounds with a group of their friends to camp out or enjoy a bonfire.

With the center’s “Build a Camp” program, pick a week and a topic, and gather up to eight children for a half-day camp. Camps are offered from 9 to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. Camps are geared for children 5-12, and are $800 for the week for Fern Hollow members and $1,000 for non-members. Only the person organizing the camp needs to be a member.

Children 5 to 10 years old can join Fern Hollow’s educators for guided nature activities. Participants get a nature pack and instructional video and a daily zoom call to share discoveries with our educators. The next virtual camp will be offered Aug. 3-14. The cost to participate is $80 for members and $100 for non-members

Scholarships are available for all programs thanks to the Union Aid Society. For more information on either program or scholarships, email info@fhnc.org. For information on Fern Hollow, visit http://www.fhnc.org/home.aspx.
