Go-kart fundraiser, 2 new businesses coming to Sewickley and more
Premier Youth & Community Center fundraiser
Three Rivers Karting in Leetsdale will host a fundraiser for Premier Youth & Community Center from 6-8 p.m. July 24.
The go-kart entertainment facility will donate 10% of all sales to the center’s inaugural Press Start to Give event.
Part of the event includes an arcade-a-thon where people can pledge a certain amount per ticket or enter a set pledge amount. Participants will have one hour of open play in the arcade on ticket-earning type games and earn as many tickets on the games as possible.
The gaming hour is from 6-7 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge per player to play.
Several prizes will be awarded to players with the top ticket counts and highest pledge amounts earned.
PYCC is in its third year at the Sewickley Community Center along Chadwick Street in Sewickley. The program helps hundreds of youths annually through mentorship and fitness initiatives.

Business plans approved
Sewickley council voted 7-0 on July 8 to approve conditional use applications for two new business offices in the borough.
Vector Resources, a professional services company specializing in technical and management services supporting the energy, defense, national security and advanced technology sectors, is coming to 436 Beaver St.
Plans for a 783- square-foot office above Chocolate Boutique and parking in a private lot and behind the building were approved by the borough planning commission on June 5.
The company was represented at the July council meeting by architectural firm Studio St. Germain founder Nathan St. Germain.
Engel & Volkers, a real estate company specializing in luxury real estate, is moving into a former hair salon at 421 Beaver St.
It will be a 1,200-square-foot office with three leased parking spaces across from the Lindsay Theater & Cultural Center. Its plans were also approved by the borough planning commission on June 5.
Elias Pappan, a licensed partner and Bell Acres resident, and attorney Robert Austin King represented Engel & Volkers at the council meeting.
Borough zoning officer Joe Motznik said business offices are conditional uses due to parking and loading and Village Overlay requirements. Offices in the Village Overlay cannot be on the first floor of a building.
Parking requirements state a business must have one parking space per 400 square feet.
Stream restoration completed
A stream restoration project at War Memorial Park has been completed, Sewickley Borough Engineer Mike Galet announced on July 8.
The estimated $163,000 effort was done by Ohio-based C. Crump and fixed erosion issues along the upper portion of the stream bank.
The first phase, involving the lower section of the park, was completed in 2023 at about the same cost.
‘Small’ event planned
Sewickley Public Library will host the Tiny Club from 2-3 p.m. July 23 at 500 Thorn St.
The free teen arts and crafts program features a variety of activities, snacks, games and more made tiny.

History Center event
Sewickley Heights History Center is hosting Pittsburgh Parlor Song of the Gilded Age, a lecture and recital, on July 19 at 6 p.m. Brady Collins will discuss Pittsburgh’s music publishing scene during the late 19th and early 20th century and perform selections including “Pittsburgh (You’re a Grand Old Town),” “My Youghiogheny Girl” and “Pittsburg: The City of Smoke.”

Pizza with Police
Edgeworth Police Department will host a Pizza with Police event at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Sewickley Academy’s Lower School cafeteria, 315 Academy Ave.

National Night Out
Sewickley’s National Night Out event is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5.
Thorn Street between Logan and Chestnut streets will be closed during that time for the event.
Association of University People
The Association of University People invites singles 50 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble and meeting up at local outdoor concerts and wineries.
Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining.

Fern Hollow Nature Center
The gracious owners of Soggy Bottom Lake will allow Fern Hollow to host Family Fishing events on select Saturdays. All ages and abilities are welcome to fish the private property. Poles and bait are provided, or you can bring your own. Upcoming dates are July 26, Aug. 9, and Sept. 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. Exact location is provided upon registration.
Pack a lunch and come play at Fern Hollow’s Natural Outdoor Classroom every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 20. Best suited for preschool and early elementary children. Adult supervision is required. Donations accepted.
Allegheny Land Trust and Fern Hollow Nature Center present summer camp for grown-ups. Relive your favorite childhood summer camp memories and learn new skills. Sessions are $25 each or $95 for all 5 and take place on select Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Forest Bathing, July 30; Campfire Cooking, Aug. 13, and archery/bonfire on Aug. 27.
There are still some open roster spots left for the 2025 youth summer camp season.
The weekly day camps run through July and August and have sessions in the morning, afternoon, or all day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Designed for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, the topics range from sustainability to watershed exploration. Financial aid is available for residents of Quaker Valley through a grant from the Union Aid Society.

Gatsby: A Jazz Age Celebration
The Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall presents Gatsby: A Jazz Age Celebration on Sept. 26 at 300 Beechwood Ave. in Carnegie.
