QVMS students win writing competition

Quaker Valley Middle School students were encouraged to participate in the Waldmann International Arts and Writing Competition this year.

This competition allowed students to expand on the themes of the QVMS seventh-grade social studies curriculum, utilize primary source documents, practice online researching skills and respond creatively. This year’s theme was “Resilience.”

Students were asked to use true stories of victims and survivors of the Holocaust to examine how individuals found strength during and after the war. Seventh-grade student award winners were Reagan Eichert, Olivia Galluzzo, Charlotte Liao and Dominic Pogue.

Gold Key Honor Society

Lee Forrest of Sewickley is among the 2021 Gold Key Honor Society inductees for the academic year 2020-21 at Emmerson College in Boston.

The Gold Key Honor Society is an interdisciplinary organization founded at Emerson in 1962 in order to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement. Membership in the society is extended to juniors in the top 5% and seniors in the top 10% of their class who have earned at least 48 credits at Emerson. Forrest is pursuing a major in theater and is a member of the Emerson College Class of 2021.

Phi Kappi Phi Honor Society

Duquesne University students Bridget Love and Tommy Lyons were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Westmont College student John Corbett also was initiated.

Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership.

Received nursing pin

Katherine Cubellis was one of 105 graduating nurses to be honored at the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Nursing Pinning Ceremony on May 1.
