Chamber leaders announced
Sewickley Chamber of Commerce officials announced their new board of directors and board leaders. Their names and businesses they run are as follows:
Leadership includes board president Denise Shirley of Gather; vice president Chris Bischel of Sewickley Confectionery; board treasurer Becki Meehan of Embody Physical Therapy; and board secretary Liz Quesnelle of The Gilded Girl Beauty Emporium.
Other board members are Angie Harmon-Pansmith of Perfect Boutique; Julia Trovato of Clearly Pilates; Mark Renger of Mark Renger Gallery; and The Lindsay Family Theater and Cultural Center sponsor Alexis Corry.

Beekeeping class
Master beekeeper Steve Rapasky of Meadow Sweet Apiaries will lead the Beekeeping 101 event for beginners on 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. March 4 at Fern Hollow Nature Center. The classroom-based course will introduce beginning beekeepers to honey bee biology and beekeeping basics. Honey bee castes, races, pests, diseases, equipment and seasonal management will be covered. All registrants will receive a packet of reference materials on the topics covered in the class. The cost for Beekeeping 101 is $125 per person. Registration required at fhnc.org.
Rotary seeks new members
After winning the District Governor’s award for the best club in the area in 2022, Quaker Valley Rotary Club seeks to build on its successes to recruit a new generation of members and to expand its influence. Each year, the club hosts community events that residents love and have come to rely on. It partners with the Sewickley Kiwanis Club to put on the Harvest Festival, presents the Halloween and Santa parades, and provides scholarships to students in the school district. The club also regularly hosts social activities and engages speakers from athletes to leaders in local nonprofit organizations.

Kindergarten registration
Quaker Valley School District kindergarten registration for the 2023-23 school year is open online. The child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents/guardians must include the child’s proof of age, proof of immunization and two proofs of residency from the family. Expired documents are not acceptable. Families can email the supporting documents to registration@qvsd.org. More information about the registration process, including forms, is available online at qvsd.org.
Municipal intern sought
Leetsdale officials have applied for a summer intern through the Local Government Academy’s Municipal Intern Program. The intern, if approved, would be available about 20 hours per week for a total of 400-480 hours from May 19 through the end of August. The LGA would cover half the cost of the internship, which was listed at $12 per hour for graduate students and $11 per hour for undergrads. Potential intern projects include helping with the borough website update, planning research and community outreach. The municipal intern program is supported by the state Department of Community & Economic Development, Allegheny County and the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington.

• Sewickley Hills council will meet at 7:30 p.m. March 14 at the borough building, 349 Magee Road.
• Sewickley Heights council will meet at 4:30 p.m. March 20 at the borough building, 238 Country Club Road.
• Glen Osborne council will meet at 7 p.m. March 21 at Osborne Elementary School, 1414 Beaver St.
• Edgeworth council will meet at 7 p.m. March 21 at the borough building, 301 Beaver Road.
Library activities set
• Block Party, a family program in which people play, build, read and learn together with blocks is planned for 10:30 a.m. to noon on March. 4 at the library, 500 Thorn St. The program is geared toward children ages birth to 6 with their parent/caregiver. No registration is required.
• Sahaja Meditation, a free weekly meditation program Saturdays at the library, is planned for 11 a.m. to noon on March 4. Newcomers are welcome. No registration is required.
• The library will host a card making class from 10 a.m. to noon March 8. Class size is limited. Registration is required. Participants will stamp scenes of spring, summer and fall with charming details for added whimsy. Cost is $10 for materials.

Lindsay Theater
On March 9 from 7 to 9 p.m., the Lindsay Theater will host a premiere of short films at another of its Emerging Filmmakers Showcases with “Excelsior: An Evening with LivCre8, Carpio Pictures and Friends.” The red carpet event features the works of five filmmakers from Beaver County and Greater Pittsburgh, and is free to both the filmmakers and the public.
