In brief: Leetsdale VFD receives grant, Sewickley Men's Club and more
Leetsdale VFD grant
Leetsdale Volunteer Fire Department recently was awarded a $14,000 grant through the State Fire Commissioner’s Office. Fire Chief Wesley James said they received approval in mid-January. Funds will go toward purchasing a new fire hose and other equipment.
Commission appointments made
Leetsdale council approved two appointments Feb. 8.
James DeGori was appointed to the planning commission for a term ending December 2028.
William Jasper was appointed to the planning commission for a term ending December 2027.
Action tabled
Leetsdale council tabled action on hiring Harshman Group as building inspector Feb. 8. BIU is the borough’s current building inspector and code enforcement officer.
Business Connection
Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet at the Eat N’ Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. Feb. 28. Folk February
Folk February, a concert series highlighting local talent through folk, indie, and Americana music, will feature Pittsburgh’s favorite performers throughout Fridays in February at Sweetwater Center for the Arts’ Community Room. Byron Nash performs on Feb. 23. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances start at 7:30. Cost is $25 and includes hors d’oeuvres. Adult beverages will be available for purchase. Fern Hollow summer camps
Fern Hollow Nature Center, located on 33 acres in Sewickley Heights, will offer more than 20 summer camps for children ages 3-14. Week-long camps will run from June 10 through Aug. 16 and both half-day and full-day sessions will be available. Children will experience quality environmental education with an emphasis on outdoor exploration and discovery. Offerings range from archery to sustainability. Some camps will take place at the Ohio Township Nature Center, located on nearby Nicholson Road.

Sewickley Men’s Club
Sewickley Men’s Club, an affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, will host Stephen Mihaly, who will speak on unusual political campaign memorabilia on Feb. 23. On March 1, Cyndie Carioli of the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office will give an update on current scams; Dan Sanko, VF-653 F4-U Korean Fighter Squadron, will speak on March 8; Dr. Frank Conn will discuss combat surgery in the Afghanistan Combat Theatre on March 15; Dr. Phillip Atteberry of the University of Pittsburgh will speak on English-American songwriter June Styne on March 22.
