Super Lawyers
Sewickley resident and real estate attorney W. Grant Scott II was among the Pittsburgh law firm Meyer, Unkovic & Scott attorneys who Super Lawyers named to the 2021 list of top attorneys in Pennsylvania.
Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business rating service, evaluates outstanding lawyers across the nation using statewide surveys, independent research evaluations and peer reviews in more than 70 practice areas. The list features less than five percent of the lawyers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania each year.
Florey named executive director
J. Douglas Florey has been hired as the first executive director by the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale’s board of directors.
Florey spent more than a decade as executive director of Mary & Alexander Laughlin Children’s Center, where he helped the nonprofit educational institution expand programmatic offerings and oversaw a capital campaign and campus-wide renovation.
Before his tenure at Laughlin, he was on faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Florey was a professional chorister at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and has sung with Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Bach Choir, and the St. Vincent Camerata.
Edgeworth Garden Club
The Edgeworth Garden Club’s visual and written history is on display at the Sewickley Public Library, 500 Thorn St.

Road work
The closure of a portion of Hitzel Hill Road (Route 4045) in Bell Acres began Aug. 23.
Shoulder reconstruction work necessitates the full closure of a portion of Hitzel Hill Road continuously through Sept. 3. Traffic will be detoured via Big Sewickley Creek Road and Camp Meeting Road Extension.
Divine Redeemer 55 Plus Club
The 55 Plus Club is for those interested in meeting new people over the age of 55 while eating lunch and being entertained once a month from September 2021 through May 2022.
The membership fee is $14 per year. Luncheons are held on the third Thursday of every month and begin with the rosary in the church at 11:30 a.m., lunch and entertainment at noon in the gathering space. Lunches are $15 for members and $16 for guests. The December Christmas party price will be determined at a later date.

Tuskegee Airmen film
Allegheny Commandery No. 35 will host a movie screening and ceremony honoring the Tuskegee Airmen on Sept. 5. Festivities begin at noon at the Tull Family Theater, 418 Walnut St.
WQED’s “Flyboys: Western Pennsylvania’s Tuskegee Airmen” will be shown. The event continues with a ceremony at the Tuskegee Airman Memorial inside Sewickley Cemetery off Hopkins Street. Special guests include Sheba Holy Royal Arch Chapter No. 13 and the Divisional Officers of the American Legion.
