Sewickley Wine Walk

The Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Wine Walk is set for Nov. 3. Attendees will be able to experience 30 choice wines as they walk the streets of Sewickley’s business district. Early bird tickets are $35. Only 50 tickets will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Food purchases are not included in the ticket price. Home school day programs

Old Economy Village in Ambridge will host Home School Day Programs on from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 22. The events will allow home school families to explore the village at a special educational rate of $5 per child and per parent or guardian. Students will get a chance to visit the buildings, try hands-on activities, see demonstrations and learn about life in the 1830s. Registration is required.

St. Matthew A.M.E. Zion Church open house

Over the past two years, the community has been an integral part of an ambitious renovation project at St. Matthew A.M.E. Zion Church. The church invites the community to stop in for an open house from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 31, to tour the progress. Light refreshments will be served. The church is located at 345 Thorn St. in Sewickley. Music Plus at St. James Church

The Music Plus Concert Series at St. James Church, after a year’s break, will begin its 2021-22 season Oct. 24 with James Houlik on the tenor saxophone, assisted by Vahan Sargsyan on piano. The main 50-minute concert, titled “Unexpected Beauty: The Tenor Saxophone,” will begin at 3 p.m., preceded by a 2-2:50 preconcert presented by the Amato Music Studio. Masks are recommended.

Houlik has been acclaimed critically around the world as the preeminent saxophonist and has introduced the unexpected beauty of the tenor saxophone to audiences.

He performs with many of the world’s great orchestras, has performed in the East Room of the White House, and “The London Daily Mail” hails him as “the world’s great saxophone virtuoso.” With his engaging repertoire and compelling artistry, Houlik serves up dependably exciting performances.

He is an artist lecturer in saxophone at Carnegie Mellon University.

Houlik will sell CDs after the concert.

The freewill offering at this concert will benefit the Sewickley Food Pantry, and gifts of money or dry/paper/canned goods and toiletries are welcome. A representative of the food pantry will be present.

Turkey Trot

Registration is open for Sewickley Valley YMCA’s annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.

A joint project of Heritage Valley Health System Foundation and Sewickley Valley YMCA, proceeds benefit the YMCA’s Faith in Action program. Register by Nov. 1 to receive a long-sleeve Turkey Trot shirt.

Train for the Turkey Trot by signing up for the Leetsdale Snowflake Classic, which takes place Nov. 6 at Henle Park.

Rummage Sale

The United Methodist Women in Sewickley will host a Rummage Sale for Missions 3-7 p.m. Nov. 5 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 6 in the lower level of the Sewickley United Methodist Church, located at 337 Broad St. Gently used household items, seasonal clothing, boots, shoes, books and Christmas items will be available.
