Edgeworth Police Department will host a Pizza with Police event at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Sewickley Academy Lower School.

Meetings set

• Sewickley council will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 8 at the borough building, 601 Thorn St.

• Sewickley Hills council will meet at 7:30 p.m. July 8 at the borough building, 349 Magee Road.

• Leetsdale council will meet at 7 p.m. July 10 at the borough building, 373 Beaver St.

• Leet commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. July 14 at the township building, 194 Ambridge Ave.

• Bell Acres council will meet at 6 p.m. July 14 at Big Sewickley Creek Fire Hall, 1850 Big Sewickley Creek Road.

• Glen Osborne council will meet at 7 p.m. July 15 at Osborne Elementary School, 1414 Beaver St.

• Edgeworth council will meet at 7 p.m. July 15 at the borough building, 301 Beaver Road.

• Sewickley Heights council will meet at 4:30 p.m. July 21 at the borough building, 238 Country Club Road.

• Aleppo board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. July 21 at the township building, 100 North Drive.

Splash all around

Leetsdale’s splash pad in Henle Park is open Thursday through Sunday from noon-6 p.m., weather permitting.

It will not be open on days with thunder or lightning.

It may be open for additional days due to heat. The pad will close for the season on Aug. 31.

Reptile event

Sewickley Public Library will host Really Stupendous Reptiles 2-3 p.m. July 7 at 500 Thorn St. The free program is designed for children ages 7 to 10 with their parents/caregivers.

Registration is required. Registration closes at 9 p.m. on July 6.

Party planned

The library will host a Pokémon Party from 1-4 p.m. July 12 in the Children’s Department.

The free family program is for people who love Pokémon. There will be crafts, games, a scavenger hunt and more. Registration is not required

Bike parade

Edgeworth will host a bike parade 10 a.m. July 10 starting at Edgeworth Elementary School, 200 Meadow Lane.

Participants are encouraged to dress up their bicycles with patriotic decor. Lineup begins at 9:45 a.m.

Paraders will be escorted by Edgeworth police and Cochran Hose Company volunteer firefighters.

There will be prizes for most patriotic and coolest helmet. Call 412-741-2866 for more information.

Pizza with Police set

Edgeworth Police Department will host a Pizza with Police event at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Sewickley Academy’s Lower School cafeteria, 315 Academy Ave.

Admission is free. More information will be posted on the borough’s Facebook page.

Seats on 2 boards in Leetsdale vacant

Leetsdale has two spots open on the recreation board. One term ends at the end of this year and the other ends at the end of next year.

There is a vacancy on the planning commission. The term ends at the end of next year.

Residents may submit letters of interest and resumes to the borough office, 373 Beaver St.

National Night Out

Sewickley’s National Night Out event is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5.

Thorn Street between Logan and Chestnut streets will be closed during that time for the event.

Sweet Jazz concerts

Sweetwater Center for the Arts announces the return of Sweet Jazz, an indoor/outdoor concert series at 7 p.m. on four Fridays featuring some of the region’s top jazz talent.

Sweetwater Center for the Arts is partnering with renowned Pittsburgh musician and educator Paul Thompson to curate a lineup that explores the origins and subgenres of jazz with some of Pittsburgh’s legendary musicians.

Dates are July 11 at Walnut Green and July 18 at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.

Tickets are $90 per person for the four-concert series or $25 per person per concert.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble and meeting up at local outdoor concerts and wineries.

Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining.

Fern Hollow Nature Center

On select Mondays this spring and summer, Fern Hollow Nature Center is inviting children 5 and younger with their caregivers to explore local parks with educator Kara O’Neill.

The hourlong Nature and Nurture programs include a short kid-friendly hike, a nature-­themed story and a simple craft.

Hikes are scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. July 28 and Aug. 18. Locations vary.

Designed to foster a love for the outdoors, Nature Night Out programs are offered on select Fridays at Fern Hollow Nature Center. Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Kristen Haas ensures that each session has the perfect blend of instruction, exploration, discovery and free play.

The drop-off program is for children ages 5 to 10 and occurs from 6 to 9 p.m. July 25 and Aug. 29.

Adults seeking a beginner’s course on herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians) can register for this hands-on, in-the-field experience, provided by Fern Hollow Nature Center. Participants will learn how to spot, identify and safely catch the creatures native to Little Sewickley Creek. This event takes place on July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Walker Park, Sewickley.
