U.S. Army War College Speaker Series

The U.S. Army War College is bringing its Eisenhower Speaker Series, “Internal and External National Security Challenges,” to Sewickley Academy from 6-7:30 p.m. April 20 in the Gregg Theater. The event is free and open to the public and seating will be first-come, first-serve.

National security is a broad concept that can involve both internal and international challenges. Join Professor Leon Perkowski and four fellows from the U.S. Army War College Eisenhower Series College Program as they discuss internal and external challenges related to diversity, civil unrest, and great power competition in the Indo-Pacific region.

This discussion, moderated by Colonel Leon Perkowski, Ph.D., will include a question and answer session following prepared remarks from four panelists: Lieutenant Colonel Christine Banks, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Burns, Colonel Jason Groat and Brigadier General Amit Talwar.

Cinderella Ball

The 96th Annual Cinderella Ball will take place May 28 at Allegheny Country Club. This year’s beneficiary is the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Ball chairs are Courtney Elizabeth Benson and Kelly Waldman.

YMCA Easter egg hunt planned April 16

Join the Sewickley Valley YMCA for its Easter Egg Hunt from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 16 at the Y’s Athletic Field. Bring your basket to collect prize-filled eggs; a separate area will be designated for kids ages 3 and under. There will also be a bounce house for kids to jump, and the Easter Bunny will be available for pictures.

The Easter egg hunt is free, although registration for the event is required; each child must be registered individually. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors.

Flea market

Little Hill United Methodist Church, 2350 Magee Road Ext., Sewickley/Franklin Park, will hold a Flea Market from noon to 7 p.m. on April 28-29 and a half-price and hoagie sale on April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Senior Men’s Club

An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will have Pennsylvania DEP’s Jim Miller on Aprill 22 and Animal Rescue’s Katie Campbell on April 29 at the YMCA. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for an informal social gathering followed by the presentation at 10.

There will be no speaker on Good Friday, April 15.

Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask. Nonvaccinated individuals are requested to wear a mask. For more information, visit smensclub.org.

Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet April 20 at the Eat’n Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Bill Baierl of Palmetto Solar and Rusty Woodley of First National Bank.
