Leet commissioners voted March 9 to approve $2,000 toward legal fees for the proposed merger of Leetsdale Volunteer Fire Department, Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire Protective Association in Leet and Big Sewickley Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Bell Acres.

Ryan Buttermore, Leetsdale Fire Department lieutenant and merger spokesman, said Leetsdale and Bell Acres firefighters are covering their $2,000 contributions, bringing the total legal startup fund to $6,000.

Buttermore said they have selected attorney Kim Houser of Mears, Smith, Houser & Boyle to begin filing paperwork and start the merger legal process.

The fire companies had their first joint meeting on March 9.

Other work needing to be done as part of the merger includes creating a new name for the joint company, new bylaws, charter, re-decaling of the trucks and new organizational leadership chart, including inaugural officers.
